Of all the many factors that contribute to health and wellness, perhaps the most important is the food we eat. Diet and nutrition can be the key not only to preventive medicine, but in many cases to the healing of disease. Our goal is to help you achieve freedom from relying on supplements, vitamins, and medications, and to receive all you need from the food you eat.
There is a great deal of confusion and conflicting advice nowadays about what constitutes a healthy, appropriate diet. Doctors Levin and Gottlieb view nutrition and therapeutic dietary regimens from both a modern scientific point of view, and the traditional wisdom of ancient times, when people lived in harmony with nature and knew how to effectively nourish body and soul.
In Group Nutritional Counseling sessions in our office at Mount Sinai Medical Center, we offer you the core principles of what it means to eat well and live well in today's world of fast foods, fad foods, and junk foods. Moreover, we recognize that everyone is different, that there is no 'one-size-fits-all' solution, and that different individuals have different needs. Which specific fruits and vegetables should you eat? How much protein do you really require? What about “carbs” and fats? And what's the best way to make a transition without shocking the system?
These introductory sessions will help you change not just what you eat, but perhaps equally importantly, the way you eat, and why you eat. Whether the issue you are concerned about is obesity, diabetes, malnourishment, chronic fatigue, digestive disorders, or simply a feeling of malaise, we are here to help. You may choose to follow up the Group Counseling with individualized dietary counseling. In some cases we may offer expert guidance in herbal strategies, based on classical principles of Chinese medicine, to maximize your metabolic well-being.
